Our Story

drawn to each other

We met in French class on the first day of high school. Though neither of us learned “the language of love,” we learned about each other and couldn’t help but fall in love. It was all so gradual. We naturally gravitated toward each other, and a friendship quickly formed. It was more than just our many common interests - we seemed to understand and appreciate each other in a special way. One day Addi went over to Harry’s house after school to study for history class, and stayed for dinner. After she left, Harry’s parents told him, “we would be really happy if you brought a girl like that over in five or six years.” Soon we were dating, and would be, on and off, for the greater part of high school. It was anything but smooth sailing, as “on” didn’t quite work, but “off” was particularly miserable. We think it was because love like ours wasn’t meant to be felt in high school.

Things ended badly senior year and we went our separate ways… to BYU in the fall. Our paths rarely crossed, and when they did it was tense. How strange it was for two people who knew each other so well to be strangers. Then, that next summer as Harry was preparing to leave on his mission, our paths crossed again. Years of history and separation spilled onto the football field of Olympus high as we talked and talked and talked into the early hours of the morning. Though the nature of our feelings for each other has changed a lot over the years, our connection never has. With the friendship restored, Harry left for California, and Addi for Copenhagen six months later.

After two years of infrequent emails, we returned home from our missions within a week of each other. We went for a long walk together when BYU started up a few weeks later. We talked and laughed, and it felt so good to be with someone who really knew you. When the topic of dating inevitably came up at the end of our walk, Addi was adamantly uninterested. Harry was adamantly patient. He respected her request for space, but noticed a pattern when she started calling him every eight or nine days, like clockwork. How uninterested could she be? As gradually as the first time, Harry and Addi gravitated together again. On January 3rd we became a couple, on May 12th engaged, and September 6th we will be husband and wife! With the drama thankfully behind us, we look forward to the happiest eternity together.
